Policy Compass is an European-wide research project that aims to develop an innovative and accessible open data tool. It enables citizens to assess political decisions on the basis of publicly available data. Policy Compass helps to analyse, compare, visualise and put into context extensive and complex data sets and thus make them comprehensible. In this way, it contributes to a more informed, fact-based political discourse. We implement this project in collaboration with an international consortium of partner organisations led by Fraunhofer Fokus and supported by the European Commission.

The two pilots of the project CCC (Cambridgeshire County Council) and the University of St. Petersburg have started to test and use the Policy Compass platform for their purposes. CCC has successfully integrated Policy Compass into their daily work and gained new insights into many areas of the County's work. The result of the Policy Compass is a research prototype for a set of easy-to-use and intuitive web-based tools for open record collection, data visualisation and analysis.
